Ranbir-Shahid heading for face-off over visit to Pak

Will Ranbir Kapoor be willing to shoot in Pakistan? Or will Shahid Kapoor bite the bait? That's the question bothering The Reluctant Fundamentalist director Mira Nair.

The director arrives in Mumbai next week to decide on the hero, depending on whom she can convince to shoot in Pakistan.

Past cast hiccups

Says a source, "Mira is no stranger to casting hiccups. For The Namesake, her first choices for the lead were Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee. But Rani didn't want to play Abhishek's mother. The roles finally went to Tabu and Kal Penn."

Historical grudge

Mira's first choice for the lead role in The Reluctant Fundamentalist was Ranbir Kapoor. Says the source, "RK was interested but the minute Pakistan was mentioned, his parents recoiled.

Rishi still remembers how hard his father, the late Raj Kapoor, tried to get permission to shoot in Pakistan for his Indo-Pak love story Henna but never got it in his lifetime.

His son Randhir later directed the film but even he couldn't shoot on location and had to make do simply with an actress belonging to that country."

I'm available

Continues the source, "Shahid is busy with his father's Mausam but is keen to meet Mira and work out the details. Going to Pakistan is not such a problem for him. Even though his parents would object, he can convince them."

The twist comes with Ranbir showing a renewed interest in the Mira Nair flick, in keeping with his policy of avoiding run-of-the-mill themes and stories.

The director confirms from New York that she's flying down to meet the two, "I am in discussions with both Ranbir and Shahid. But all decisions can be taken only when I meet them in person next week."

October 28, 2010, (Sawf News) - A Mumbai tabloid is reporting that Priyanka Chopra called timeout on her relationship with Shahid Kapoor because he started to show inexplicable interest in Deepika Pudukone!
According to Mid Day, this happened while Priyanka was in Brazil shooting for Fear Factor.
Now considering that
Priyanka was in Brazil two months ago;
Priyanka and Shahid exchanged xoxo endearments on Twitter, with Priyanka addressing Shahid as Shaks, on September 7;
And Deepika has been going around with Kingfisher scion Siddharth Mallaya since August;
Gossip Mamu is constrained to call BS on the Mid Day story.
Mamu thinks the story is nothing more than a slow news day concoction.
Back in September there were reports that Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone will feature in Sajid Nadiadwala's Heer Ranjha but Sajid later denied saying no female lead has been yet finalized for the film.

Hrithik, Shahid to clash on TV

All top male stars have come on TV as hosts or judges barring two — Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor. But now we hear these two too might just take the plunge. It's big money on TV and who can say a no to that!

Talks are on to get Hrithik to be judge on a new reality show that aims to be bigger and better than all the existing ones. It will have dancers not just from India, but from all over the world. "When it's Hrithik, the competition ought to be fierce," says a source. Shahid Kapoor, on the other hand, is being wooed by the makers of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa to be a judge on the show. Madhuri Dixit has agreed to be a part of Jhalak, hence the makers wanted to have somebody big as a judge along with her. And who better than Shahid, who is considered one of the finest dancers in the film industry besides Hrithik.

If both these stars agree to make their debut on the small screen then we won't be surprised if the shows are pitted against each other just like the current Amitabh Bachchan-Salman Khan- Akshay Kumar competition created by channels through Kaun Banega Crorepati, Bigg Boss and MasterChef.

But is it worth it?
Whether it's Big B, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan or Rani Mukerji, Karisma Kapur, Madhuri Dixit... nobody's been able to resist the lure of the small screen. The superstars are being paid in crores today for their telly stint. But how worthwhile is it for TV channels is a debatable issue because television rating points (TRPs) of their shows have never been consistently high.

Some of the stars do get a good opening because of the curiosity value, but in a couple of weeks things slow down. In fact serials have always been a lot more consistent and hence it's been a contentious issue with serial producers who are upset that channels "blow up so much money on film stars and cut down on serial budgets".

Channels have their reasoning. Reality shows, they believe, help bring in a fresh audience, especially the men and youth, who are not regular soap watchers and in such cases having a film star as a judge/host helps. Shows with film stars rake in more money in terms of advertisements and hence channels don't mind going the filmi way.

Though both Pankaj and Shahid Kapoor tried exceptionally hard to curtail any information about Mausam from being leaked out, Mumbai Mirror caught more than a whiff of it. We present to you a sneak peek of Shahid's look in the film.

The actor has been extremely cautions about not revealing his look to the media. In fact, he was not signing any films for a long time because he wanted to focus completely on Mausam. After all, it happens to be his father's directorial debut.

Sasha has been spending most of his time indoors to keep his look in the film a secret. But last weekend, he was shooting at a suburban hospital, where we managed to click pictures of his rather dapper, short-haired army officer look.

Incidentally, some time ago, when Shahid stepped out of his house with his head covered for a special screening of Anjaana Anjaani, his father apparently got really upset with him because his son failed to escape the paparazzi. He warned Shahid not to reveal his look to anyone. As a result, daddy's boy was grounded and has been indoors ever since.

An onlooker on the sets said, "Shahid was pretty comfortable in the company of others. His moustache makes him look even younger."

Come to think of it, is there anything that could make Sasha look older?
